Inspection of single leg chain slings:

  1. Before use inspect all chain slings.
  2. First clean the sling in order to spot defects more easily.
  3. Hang the sling vertically and measure the reach from bearing to bearing.
  4. Compare the actual length of the sling with the reach stamped on the sling chain identification tag.
  5. Check link by link and all attachments for:
    • excessive corrosion
    • spread in throat openings of hooks
    • cracks, bent or twisted links, gouges and wear
